Hello, I’ve spent a few hours doing online searches and haven’t seen anything on the style family of these two tables— any thoughts or info welcome! Also guidance on how best to touch up/clean/preserve, especially the veneer and metal surfaces? Thanks!

@verybrad I saw your knowledgeable comments on other Lane posts so thought I'd tag you here, hope that's okay.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Hi, @KarenFL -- Welcome to Antiquers! Brad will be along at some point, and maybe others can comment as well. From this site I learned the trick of figuring out production dates of Lane Furniture by reading the serial numbers backwards. Both of yours are from 1964. (Just noticed you put the year in the title of this thread!) You asked about the style numbers. I'm finding that is not as simple. They both start with 1039, but when I look those up online the results are not the same style visually. I hope somebody can help with your questions.

Can't help you with a style name. I have not seen these before or at least did not pay attention when I did. The finish on these is a bit tricky since it probably includes a toner, a stain, the speckled treatment, and a top coat of lacquer. Touching up is probably best done with a minimalist approach. A little stain to color in scratches and a coat of paste wax would be about it. If the finish is deteriorated overall, something like Howard's Restor-A-Finish or just a wipe on clear-coat might help. The results might be less than satisfactory so paint could be an option. The metal can be cleaned with soap and water. anything that doesn't come off with soap and water can probably be removed with mineral spirits. Once clean, apply a coat of paste wax or, if ambitious, mask off and spray with a clear lacquer.
