I recently found this vase in a charity shop and couldn't resist buying it. I think it is a WWi trench art shell case vase but have never seen one this shape before. It is just under 12 inches tall. I have trawled through dozens of pictures on line but can't find anything like it. Has anyone come across something like this before? I would be grateful for any advice or information. Many thanks. 20220209_112913.jpg 20220209_110922.jpg 20220209_111113.jpg 20220209_112913.jpg 20220209_110922.jpg 20220209_111113.jpg

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

How about looking down the top? Does it look like it could be missing a lid? I'm at least 'thinking' it kind of looks like a cocktail shaker......

Maybe the bottom is from an old shell and was brazed on to something else. But the primer always has a manufacturers stamp no matter where it's from. This one doesn't. And the shape is not one of a cannon casing. My 2 cents.

I have a WW1 shell. I'll dig it out and show you the primer area id stamps.

Thank you both. I can see what you mean about the cocktail shaker shape but this is so heavy you wouldn't want to do much shaking! Also I wouldn't fancy drinking anything that came out of it! Having had a good look I can't see where a lid would fit. I tried to take photo of the inside but it was like the Black Hole of Calcutta, there is a definite ridge around the inside - about 3 inches below where the bottom decorative ring is.

I'd be half thinking cremation urn rather than shell casing.

I'm thinking cremation urn or grave vase, agreed.
