Tree like bronze candlesticks, with tiny squirrels.

These look like bronze to me, or possibly patinated brass. There is some yellow metal showing under the edge of the base, enough to eliminate any other metal.

They are about 8 inches high and reasonably but not remarkably well cast. They have a Japanese feel, to me, but any other opinion welcomed.

Two tiny squirrels on each one. 1-P1040668.JPG 1-P1040669.JPG

I'd not noticed the holes till you mentioned them. No idea, maybe it's an ear-ring holder? :)

Wasn't the filled cement thing more of a later invention? Id love to see them with some prisms !

That does seem to have nailed it. I did bring home a small bundle of what I thought were unrelated chandelier parts which might be the lustres from these sticks. Certainly the form and material matches. I will have to have a dig through the shed as already I can't remember where I put them. At least I did not leave them for the clearers. I do remember they were in two newspaper wrapped bundles, maybe one for each stick, and I am pretty sure there are less than a complete set, if that is what they are.

Still, it does look like they might have a bit of potential. Thanks a lot.

Looking at similar items, they do seem to be priced at 4 or 5 times what I'd consider reasonable, put me in mind of that great retail establishment 'I saw you coming'

A quick shed search and I found the bundle of lustres, actually 3 more than I needed, so some or all must be replacements, but I have hung on a full set of danglers and will include a picture later.

I think I preferred them naked, but here they are with lustres.

I agree. They seem too squatty for prisms. You certainly could forget the prisms, but the bare canopies might be a draw back?? Did you notice one of those links I gave said in the description:

"...stems moulded as trees with squirrels, supported on foliage decorated square plinth bases."

I can't see them very well because of the prisms, but believe the stems are the same as yours. The bases, canopies and candle cups are different.

The main difference seems to be that the illustrated examples have been tarted up to within an inch of their lives for the 'smart' London market.

Summing up in eight words those particular lustres on those particular candlesticks -- too large, overwhelming and intrusive, and thus tacky. ;)

Yep - but a smaller teardrop/raindrop/pear shape would work nicely

Mansons, I agree wholeheartedly with "smaller." ;)

Those prisms are the same ones on my folks 1960's chandelier & may not actually belong to the sticks.

Because of the base shape I think garland like swags of crystal would be another option.
