Top of fence post, or end of curtain rod?

Unsure what these are, but they are fantastic. Figured fence or gate topper made the most sense. I see some similar objects are curtain rod ends. These are around 6”x6”, a bit big for the end of a curtain rod. I guess not if the home is grand, which it may be if something like this was on the end of your curtain rods. 7BFBEABC-8053-461C-BA4B-B080B404D15E.jpeg C0465FF7-0E9B-4B2F-A76B-9E4AE981E3A8.jpeg 7B4DD108-FF33-42F2-92B9-A636A0BFA06B.jpeg

Did you look on ebay under cast iron finials? I think they would be for a gate or something outdoors. I have seen some andiron finials a screw tightener.

Funny, I recently donated an outdoor Shepards hook that had something similar which unscrewed.

They do make me think outdoors. I have not handled enough antique curtain rods to know if any had square terminals though. One does think round when they think curtain rod though.

Andirons didn’t cross my mind but that’s an interesting thought. I didn’t check eBay specifically. I thought these might be wrought iron rather than cast iron. I do sometimes feel a bit hazy distinguishing the two.

Looks like a curtain rod finial to me, especially with that screw to tighten it to the rod. The marching rod may have been solid wrought iron instead of hollow tube steel (which is lighter).

I had a noted Los Angeles metalworker custom make curtain rods and finials for my Spanish home decades ago. I’d read in Architectural Digest that a noted architect and designer used him to help restore old, iconic Spanish residences. I was delighted when he agreed to design me a custom set; I had him use the design elements of my wrought iron wall sconces for inspiration, so the finials and the sconces tied in.

My custom finials are much larger than what you’d see for sale in a store.

These have that handmade, custom look.

very cool! There are a lot of talented artisans in that part of the world. I used to spend a lot of time in So Cal and got to see a lot of amazing handiwork via artist and artisan friends. Seems the consensus is that these look like they belong outdoors but probably are curtain rod finials none the less.

have photos of your custom made window hardware? Or Spanish home in general? I do love their style of home. Plenty of them in the greater LA area.
