Can anyone tell me about the picture by Tom Kalina. I pick it up at a second hand store. I bought it because I like it. Thank you 20190314_205811.jpg 20190314_205819.jpg 20190314_205819.jpg 20190314_205819.jpg 20190314_205811.jpg 20190314_205819.jpg

"Tom Kalina has been painting and flying since the age of sixteen. He has accumulated over 16,000 hours of flying experience in a variety of aircraft types. This piloting background brings to the canvas authentic views of aircraft and their realm. Tom specializes in oil paintings of commercial and general aviation, with an emphasis on airliners of the 1950s. For over a decade, Tom was the Staff Artist for the World Airline Historical Society. Tom participates and judges in national aviation art shows. Some of his works have been put into print and many of his originals hang in corporate offices. He welcomes commissions." What I saw were paintings.

It's executed in a technique called crosshatching (if that's not too much information.)

I would think that the plane depicted ( The legendary DC 3 ) would ensure a market !

Did he do many crosshatch pieces. Do you think this is an early piece. What type of price might it bring

Unless you find previous sales of his work, it's nearly impossible to determine price.

As I looked closer at your photos are you sure it isn't a print if his crosshatch?

It doesn't look like a print to me, but pictures of pictures can be tough to judge.

That said, after looking at it more closely, you might wish to pop it out of that frame. It looks like, next to the signature, the frame may be causing damage to the paper.
