Featured Tiny pig, date letter?

2cm long. I thought it was modern at first but it isn’t, I believe it’s by Joseph Cook & Sons, Chester, 9ct gold but I’m confused by the Date letter. The shape doesn’t look correct for the script style font, looks like an H.

Chester assay 1908, possibly a later marriage - the pendant looks off for Edwardian.

 

It does look strange but gold band fits well.

 

Same period when Fabergé was doing miniature farm animals for the British Royal Family. May have been fashionable.

I suspect the little piggy is jade, i.e. tough to carve. That would account for the mismatch.

Thanks. I was confused by the shape the date letter in enclosed in which doesn’t have the little spur on the bottom.

 

When you want info on a shape surrounding the letter (or other parts of the mark) say "cartouche."

 

Pig might be right for this date according to this seller. Mine has the same crazy looking eyes.

 

The letter itself is more important than the finer details of the cartouche I think.

We JUST a few days ago saw that SCRIPT "H" on something else!!! And I think it might have been @Ownedbybear that identified it.....but I could be wrong too.....she (whoever) had a piece of something with the same mark!!

 

I’ve got a little MOP pig about that size and I suspect about that era. I think I got it on a 9ct safety pin.

Published date letter charts are for silver. Punch shapes for gold are different, being mainly square with cut corners, but with some exceptions which aren't very well documented.

Our wonderful @charlie cheswick gave me a cute little Connemara marble lucky pig charm with a silver band.
They were a thing in the late 19th-early 20th century.
