I posted a picture of a Tianhuang stone carving in loquat color and since have been reading everything I can find about this material. My wife just sent me pictures of 4 more pieces from the same collection, she was given one each of the 5 colors I’ve been reading about. These are all Qing or earlier carvings of stone from the now exhausted pit. While I’ve been able to read about these colors until now I’ve not seen them all or been certain if I was correctly understanding gold color from loquat?

Beautiful carvings, Desert, and very informative.
Good to see the difference between loquat and gold, I have gotten them mixed up as well.

This gold colored example is a sale from 2011, prices have risen considerably. I think the color and quality are similar but it is hard to make a comparison between a professionally lighted photograph and an iPhone snapshot. IMG_2024-10-10-120804.jpeg

I have to make a correction my wife sent me these 8 pictures and two and two new works by an artist named Kirzho she mentioned the white one had lots of bubbles and that the two Kirzho carvings she liked the best so we own them. Because she knew I was expecting the Tianhuang I just assumed I’d gotten something wrong and there was 5. Incorrect my assumption was wrong, the gold one is Tienhuang ant the green one and black one are actually the two sides of the black one in different lighting.

the white one my wife says is something different, when she bought it 30 or 40 years ago a tiny piece with one bubble was $10 and more bubbles more dollars… this too she says is rare now only found in collections. Perhaps any jewelry knows what this is called?

    sorry for any confusion

    I don't, but maybe @shamster does?
I know alabaster can look like it has bubbles, but this is probably something different.
