Found this painting today at a local thrift store; when I started to google what I thought the signature said - Baruj Salinas - it came back with Cuban artist Baruji Salinas, who appears to be a well-known Cuban artist and who started out right here in Miami where I found the painting!
Is this painting by Cuban artist Baruj Salinas?
It also has the initials in the opposite (lower left) side of H.C. - is that for Havana, Cuba?
    Thank you for any help!

Looks right. Signature et. al. What's the medium? Here's his web site. You can ask.

Dunno about H.C. He hasn't lived in Havana since 1959. But could be title of painting, I suppose.

Ah, H.C. means it's a multiple. From the internet:

"Hors Commerce means 'out of trade' in English. HCs and APs are very similar except the former is only available directly from the artist. A HC is given as a gift to the artist for allowing the publisher to print their images. Of all the special prints, the HCs are the most valuable, because of their rarity."

You can look for your work here.

I don't know what the H.C. means, but from these photos, this doesn't look like a multiple to me, and that's not a typical style of marking a print.

I was just going to say thank you - again! - Debora, but I'm going to have to take this out of the frame because I'd have bet money it's a painting!

Go on ebay and type in the search bar "baruj salinas insondable II etching on paper hand signed and numbered H/C COA". Thats another one like yours. I assume yours is a lithograph. The seller stated its a etching and signed and numbered but there is no limited edition numbers on theirs and there is none on yours either so has to be some sort of print.

The seller has H.C on theirs as well.

I’m not sure where you found this information but it is not entirely correct. HC essentially means that the item was not originally intended for sale. They are certainly not more valuable than numbered prints from the same edition. Indeed, with all the fake prints out there, hc, ea, or ap prints are the easiest to get away with.

From the internet. Always a caveat with such information.
