Featured Thrift find - handmade Burl root(?) stool?

I found this yesterday at a local thrift store I go to every day (Mon - Fri); I think it's a Burl root stool/seat? Handmade/folk art?
Any info would be appreciated - thank you!

How would I investigate a homemade piece of furniture - no signature on it that I saw?
Below pics of it taken inside; I don't know a lot about furniture, so if it were you would it be better to use the ones below or ones taken outside in the sunlight when listing it for sale?

I think theres a lot of this style of furniture being exported form Japan at the mo. Big lumpy knotted things.Teak root perhaps?

 

Similar are available on amazon but yours looks more interesting!

 

The lumpy bit sticking up could be quite mischievous but I do like it from an aesthetic stance.

 

I think the OP's is true vintage. It may have come from a small workshop, but not in southeast Asia.

 

As a buyer, I'd like the indoor pics a little better. Especially if other items in the picture could be cropped out.

Use the 'Hobbit' copy (i'd be honored). I stage the photos in front of Frodo's fireplace,a log cabin wall,or a minimal MCM wall.

 

If you use Hobbit, don't put it in the title if you're listing on eBoo. Keeps the bots off of your case.
