Can anyone help identify this three legged stool? It is made of wood with what appears to be a leather covering. The art shows a rook or castle, like from a chessboard, and a soldier in an old fashioned helmet, like a knight. Is this a milking stool? Where is it from? How should I get it exposed to the market?
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Looks English to me. Could be travel stool. Does it come apart?

doesnt make sense. The site says it is a birthing stool which one of the families members brought back from the Middle East. Ok that is possible.

But they had no similar castles or such in the middle east! It also has the same design as the above one shown. Makes me believe that it was a cast and they embossed the leather with it which can mean that it was made in large quantities.

Maybe a tourist piece that was made to look old?

Welcome to the group! Interesting piece. I have always seen this form referred to as a birthing seat. With multiples turning up so easily I think it may be a more recent piece then it looks at first also. One of the above examples shows a matching table even.

Probably one of the things that jumps out at me is how impractical a leather covering would be if indeed it was intended for birthing. If it had been in the possession of a midwife or such and had seen much use I would expect the seat to be darkened and stained to some degree.

The Middle East is full of them, this is the most famous one, Krak des Chevaliers, in Syria:

But the stool looks European to me. Spanish maybe. Could have been taken to the Middle East.
As I always say, items travel, sometimes more than their owners.

Spanish tourist piece, I've seen many of them there, especially with the knight's helmet/head.

I wouldn't want to give birth on a stool with all that marital imagery! Give me roses, butterflies, a bird on her nest...
