Another find this looks badly damaged, but still nice, thought at first old but now am not too sure, Again found with the other items from Santa Fe. thank you all.

Well, as the resident Mexican, I'm sorry to be of little help, butttttt...
It could be ollllld or brand new... I've seen these primitive "Cristos" with ancient bonafides, and I have myself painted some on old wood or metal. If you're able to date it, I think your best bet is to try to do it by other than artistic means... age of paint type, or consistency of ageing of wood and paint, in comparison... might we date the screws on back?
I do like it. The expression is simplistic but intense... reverent... haunted.

 

I think newer. If you look at the ragged edge at the bottom, the paint goes right up to the edge. I would think that if this were painted before it rotted, you would see more paint loss along that edge. You might also look to see if paint goes down into the cracks at all. If so, this is a sure sign that it is newer and painted on old wood.

no paint does not go in to cracks. screws look newer to me also.still it had a 3.00 sticker on it so dont think I overpaid back in the day, I have no idea about how to date the paint,
