I bought this interesting watercolour on card today as , although unsigned, I felt that it was not an amateur daub.

    it’s about 28cm x 24cm

I’m guessing that it depicts a Parisian fair or circus c1880.

I don’t expect to discover the artist but I’d like to date it correctly.

    Opinions welcome.

There appears to be a Ferris wheel, which would date it later then 1893. The Ferris wheel was introduced at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The woman's clothing (on the right) would also suggest 1890s.

Her dress has a pigeon breast but a not very exaggerated one. That would place her turn of the century-ish. (The dress below dates to 1901 and has a similarly-shaped bodice.)

Maybe a professional illustrator's sketch. Was it removed from a sketch book perhaps & does the paper have a watermark ?

It’s laid on card so no chance of watermark.
