I'm posting to get some thoughts on this thing. Looks like a horror show to me. It appears to have some age to it. The back has some writing on it. A name, last name "Moore" but I can't make out the few letters above that, maybe "Tom". Then it says "The Debutante" and where it's ripped up at it says "original oil" and something illegible. The painting itself is an impasto oil on canvas and it is signed Glenna on the bottom right. It's small measuring only 7" x 9" in the frame. Thanks.

Sorry to say this but . . . it looks like she stayed too long at the "debutante"(?) ball.;)

Grotesque....but somehow intrigues me the way the hair and face are done ...I think it reminds me of my impression of what the witches in Macbeth would be!

Are we sure its not "P. Jenna?" I think in a different frame it'd look much better. I actually like this a lot.

We like it here, too... face is rather soulful... reminds us of the paintings Rod Serling used in his "Night Gallery" series... there's a British painter Tom Moore who works in heavily impasto oils, but all his subjects seem to be radically abstracted landscapes...

    No I'm not sure actually.

I bought it for a few reasons. The first was, it was only a dollar so how could I go wrong. It looked like it had some age to it. I liked the frame too. I also felt that as scary looking as it was, someone has to like it. I like that it sparks a feeling in those who have replied. Whether good or bad. Isn't that what art is supposed to do?

I have an overwhelming sense of sadness looking at her and she seems very wistful, despite the harsh textures and colours. It must have been a dreadful Ball.
There are many "Glenna" listed online, but they all seem to refer to first names, not family names. AskArt has 11 listings but none seem to match this style. Artcyclopedia has no listings as either first or family names. No family names in Masterart, ArtistSignatures and Wiki also have nothing.
Sorry I can't help find her a nice family to belong too.

She'd make one heckuva haunted house decoration, and some goth kid would probably love her. For me however... Walking Dead about covers it!

In an odd way, she also reminds me of Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.

I know very little about paintings, so had not commented. But thumbing through a book on Edvard Munch this evening i saw this lithograph
of his which looks like it might have been an inspiration for your debutante:
"The Sin (Woman with Red Hair and Green Eyes)"

Other works by Munch have similarly grotesque faces Munch (385x640).jpg
"Evening (The Woman by the Pine Wood)"

Mind you, I am not saying you have found a lost Munch - just that some aspiring artist might have liked Munch.
