    I remember that ARS appraisal. They have used it several times in the remixed "vintage" and special subject shows, too.

    I almost fell over when I read it had been donated!

    Smart move under USA tax law. They get a write-off for that donation and may not have to pay any tax again for years, because they can spread out the deduction over time. The museum gets the asset, which draws other donations, and the donors get the IRS off of their backs. Win/Win.

    Yep, all this is good. And maybe the owner was well-set where that amount of money wasn't life changing for them.

    I also like it when a culturally important piece finds its way to those who will really love it, so good on them for doing it right.

    It was a native Hawaiian painting and the lady was native too, so it makes total sense that she'd want to make sure that it stays in Hawaii. No way is the museum ever selling it.
