I am hoping to date a site by a spoon fragment that was found. Not much to go on, but if anybody recognizes this pattern, that would be great!

That faint flower does look like a tulip.

 

I thought it was a rose.

Look at the leaves, people. Roses have compound pinnate leaves held in opposing pairs on a stem with a top leaf. Usually five, ocasionally seven for dog roses.

 

Artistic license? The shape of the flower looks like a rose to me.

 

Bastard love child of a tulip and a ranunculus, more like.

 

About what I thought too. Someone's 9 year-old did the artwork or it was done by someone who'd never seen a ranunculous and was drawing from a description.

The first photo below is the top of the spoon and the second is the bottom. The 3rd is a close up of the flower.

 

Close in I think it actually is supposed to be a rose, but it looks like I drew it.

 

Big difference between the flowers front and back. The bottom has what looks like two buds, but the top doesn’t.
