Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

like Art on a canvas!! Back in 1952 we started going to Block Island, when I was around 10 years old.......My parents got to know many of the Islanders very well, and made many great friends. One was a fisherman, and Mom in particular liked to fish, AND was fairly good at 'surf casting'.....so when she got to know Leo G. they became fast friends!! Leo also liked to carve, and he eventually gave my parents two of his carvings, which both DH & I inherited after my parents passed on. My absolute favorite one is what Leo always said was a WHALE bone disc .......both pieces are works including Jesus.....just looking to see if anyone will agree/can confirm what Mom & Dad were always told about this piece. The disc, to us, looks wonderful in a window with some light coming in the back, but here are the images........ ALL INPUT IS WELCOME!!!!! AND Thank you, SO MUCH!

Amazing image-It looks the Shroud of Turin. Leo G was quite a sensitive carver.

Good carver using resale-proof material. That's really nice!

If you haven't done so already, you might want to share that with the Block Island Historical Society. Sure they'd be interested.

My parents already have donated a LOT of B.I. things back when they were selling their house there, to the B.I. Historical Society, and we (DH & I) have to a lesser degree, as we also felt some items should go there, but some things, sometimes are hard to let go of!!! Maybe as we get a little older!!!!:) Leo did a larger carving which is also ours from my parents.......He (Leo) was quite the fisherman, as well as carver!!! He also did this below, that's been hanging in our dining area for about 25 years! We think teak is the wood, but not 100% sure....1" thick, 27" tall, 14" at the base and up by His arms it's 21".....

I wasn't suggesting a donation. I was suggesting that you share with them photos and an oral history of the carvings.

Wow. My husband and I have visited because both of us have ancestors that were on the Founders Rock plaque. Ten generations later we met and got married without knowing we had a connection. I agree with Debora that you keep the carvings but share images and the story with the B.I.Historical Society. When we first went there the Director took us out on a drive around the island showing us where our ancestors lived and all the important historic locations. They're very friendly.
