The paper is ~3½ X ~4½ inches. It doesn't correctly fit the frame, so they're not really associated. Some things I've noticed about the image:
The Cross seems to be of extremely unproportional dimensions...
The applied color is crudely done, especially the red on garments...
The leaping stag & standing doe in the woods, and the rabbit ears near the RF carriage wheel (these look incongruent with the overall theme; could the rabbit be a form of signature?)
The winged cherubs...angels...drawing the carriage, in a wholly earthen
    scene...
On the back of the stiff board holding everything in the frame are two
(assumed) dates: 1630 over 1690 (in grease-pencil, upside down to the
    frame)...

I've had it over 50 years, and have done no research in that time. I'm not Christian, and have very little knowledge of icons, from any faith.

Your comments are welcome, of course. Thanks for looking!

    That is fabulous!

The Virgin Mary seems to be enjoying herself for once.

I think this is a picture of The Flight into Egypt, where the Holy Family was helped on their journey by two angels. Who knows where Joseph is? Up ahead with the donkey?
