If yr time to study this is limited, the last posts summarize a lot:

I participate in several forums, two of which, including the linked one, are populated by amateur and professional machinists.

I had never, ever heard of some of the methods recommended, such as molasses, but none of the many methods listed are jokes, I think most were suggested by at least two different posters.

    Good luck to you, Donald!

Thank you for that! But I have to admit that I am at the age/place in my life that if its going to take more than an hour to "clean" it goes out to the junk man.................though I do keep a jar of naval jelly......or is it navel jelly? Oh well, what ever, I just love surprises..................:eek::eek:

I don't want to spend any significant time on rust removal either so the speedy methods are the only ones I use. The "new" stuff I found, called "Must for Rust" by the Krud Kutter Kompany fits my needs, in volume not very expensive, and it seems I can just immerse rusty things, wait, remove, wash, oil and it is done. 2nd fav quick way is cheap ($15) electric angle grinder with knotted rotary wire brush. That way, need goggles and dust mask and do it outdoors due to dense rust-dust cloud.
