The Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, home of Vermeer's 'Girl with the Pearl Earring' and other important art goodies, is now the first Gigapixel Museum in the world.
That means the virtual tour is amazing, you can take a tour with a guide, and the detail is perfect.

One slight problem for foreign viewers, even though the tour is in English, the names of famous Dutch and Flemish painters are pronounced the original Dutch/Flemish way, which is often very different from the English way.:playful:
So you may not recognize the names, but the beautiful paintings are the same of course.

There is also a free app with which you can zoom into the smallest details, to get better acquainted with painting techniques, brush strokes etc:

    Enjoy!

Google translate has an option to hear the pronunciation if you fill in Dutch and Flemish painter names. You can click on the loudspeaker symbol.
The girl who does the pronunciation has a Holland accent.

    Breughel or Breugel:

    Rogier van der Weyden:

This one will really surprise you, van Gogh:

I had a lecturer in an impressionist art course who was a leading expert on Van Gogh. When time came to discuss his work, she started talking about him using the Dutch pronunciation of the name. A lot of quizzical noises from the class until she showed a couple of slides, then there was a general sigh of relief.

I, on the other hand, never understood why anyone would give him a Vietnamese name, Van Go.:playful:
Famous Vietnamese painter Nguyen Van Go.:hilarious:

@Any Jewelry , Wyatt, my 5 year old, is fascinated with Rembrandt's "Anatomy Lesson" painting... I expect we can have it on loan here at my house for a year or so , yes ? lol.... I was fortunate to have a wonderful 3rd grade teacher Miss LaTanndress ( ? spelling?) who taught us all the masters, played Beatles music in German on rainy days, had full size mannequins she would dress with period costumes for history , and was a wonderful artist herself : she died a few years ago in her 90's.... also had a great High school Art history teacher , Mr. Vaughn, who was more into Salvador Dali and Art Dada..... which leads me to a really humerous story , and I wish I could show you the video... when wyatt was very young and his vocabulary was just a few words, just after his 1st birthday he sat in front of his toy upright piano, selecting notes one by one , as I videoed him , playing all in sharps and minors , all very slowly and methodically till he was done and looked up and said "DADA !" and by god, he was correct , it was a very Art dada piece....lol ... Thanks for the post , having a fun tour !!!
