Hey folks! Merry Christmas I found this machine in the thrift store in Sweden for $5. I am not sure why I bought it since I don't collect items like this, but well I did so now asking for your help to tell me if it is rubbish or should I keep it It's super heavy and quite large. I couldn't figure out when it was made exactly and is worth anything today? I need few hours to clean it, will do it tomorrow probably hehe. Thanks a lot! Erik
I think things like this are cool, and there are collectors, but how do you connect with them? Size and weight are killers so far as shipping is concerned.
My dad brought this home from his office when he retired. It was in the attic for years and it weighed a ton. It was used in his bookkeeping dept. I believe it may have been used for checks.
My father brought one home, too. Maybe not the same model or company, but a large adding machine. I forget where he got it. Very heavy!
There are a few collectors but they generally want older ones. Like this.... At $5.00, you might have a little profit there.
I had one once, called a Computometer. I like stuff like this, but ultimately there was nothing I could do with it and it was taking up space. So big, so heavy. I ended up donating it to a thrift. Interesting that it was considered "portable". Back in the days when men were men, etc. Same with a reel to reel tape recorder from the '50s (maybe earlier) that I apparently never photographed. I do have my portable typewriter (from 1908):
MOS my grandfather had a huge reel to real tape recorder. He loved anything to do with electronics. He would tape us kids in conversations. I only wish I had some to listen to now but my siblings grabbed them and are not sharers.
