Teapot like thing with a face spout

This is about a foot across, red earthenware, the lid is not a real lid, just part of the body.









Any ideas? I have not seen anything like it. Luckily, some would say.

 

Something in my head thinks that thing is South American. One of those weird herb tea vessels.

I thought the head looked like a turtle from the side, then I saw the face!
