    It's marked 'Shaw & Fisher - Sheffield'. Pewter, 8 inches tall. Wanted to know if it's form puts it at 1840's - 50's or more 1880's - 90's s-l1600.jpg

Seeing the mark itself could help, Drew. I've looked through my copy of Pewter Wares of Sheffield, but did not see this exact design. There is a pumpkin shaped teapot shown with a very similar handle shape that the compiler says is circa 1860.

Good. That mark was used between 1833 and 1872. With no address included, can't say more precisely, but I would think that the circa 1860 in the book for the somewhat similar design is reasonable.

Nice! I forget, should pewter be cleaned or is it better to leave as is? This looks good as is, which is why I was wondering. (Or maybe it has been cleaned?)

IMO, pewters patina should be left as it is. . . gentle cleaning is fine - like bronze, it takes many decades to reach it's appearance.

A gentle wash and then dry with a soft cloth, if you really need to.
