This tall floor-standing swinger clock is from France ca, 1890; the woman is bronze and the whole assembly is over 6 feet tall.

Can one of you brilliant searchers find another one? I'm told it had quite the value some years ago, and I would like to find a listing for something similar and so far I've got zilch.

    Asking for a friend.....:)

never seen one of these , incredible piece !
doesn't appear to be french ( is CT connecticut ? )
Ansonia seems to be the manufacturer but all I can find is
The Ansonia Clock Company, formed in 1851 and operated as a high-quality company until the 1920s, made the clock of this week. A series of bad decisions and the Depression forced the sale of the company to Soviet Russia in 1928. The company was originally housed in Darby, CT until 1854 when the factory burned. ::: can't open the link !

there appear to be repros : https://www.invaluable.com/auction-...ia-clock-co-diana-ball-swing-705-c-b744660943
which I hope isn't the case here

I believe Ansonia may have originated the swinger concept in the 1880s, at least that’s when they appeared in their catalogs. Like most reproductions, swinger repros are fairly obvious when you see them in person: lesser castings, poorer movements usually wound from the front of the sphere, etc. Also, Ansonia contracted with French clock companies and sometimes used French sphere movements with Ansonia statues around 1900.

Swingers were also made in France and Germany. French swingers were of very high quality and command prices similar to antique Ansonias. German swingers get lower prices; I have not examined one to see why; they may be newer as well, well into the 20th Century.

I have never heard of one of the large floor standers being reproduced. Mine is French from ca.1890, trust me!

Ansonia is a town/city in Connecticut, relatively near New Haven. It's on the Naugatuck River, so it's one of the old mill towns. They used water power in the factories, and the area had quite a bit of industry in the 19th century.
