Hello, I have some Taino's objects, but I doubt that all of them are authentic. What do you think about this one? Please share your opinion.
The piece is from Dominican Republic, so I am sure about Taino. Only one doubt left whether is original or not.
With the white vein across the front, I thought it might be stone, but the detail looks like cast metal to me. To my eye, the decoration doesn't look like it was done with electrical tools. Again to me, the bottom looks better conceived and worked than might be expected in a tourist piece. I'm certainly in no position to judge; just tossing out some observations.
Thank you for your opinion! It seems to me as well that it' s look like cast metal. I didn't hold the piece in my hands, but the owner says that it's made of a stone
If this item is not yours, and you are thinking of purchasing it, don't make your decision based on my opinions... unless it's super cheap and you won't mind if it turns out to be new.
You don't need a board, you need a Gallery who sells Pre- Columbian fine art. Like Galeriacontiki.net, or others...
I was curious and found these sites. http://web.archive.org/web/20121227061423/http://anthropology.si.edu/cm/taino.htm http://blog.goldenkeymanagement.com/2014/09/tainos-dominican-republic-1492/
Thanks to everyone for your interest. I've found 5 well-known Precolumbian's experts and 4 of them says that the piece is modern. Of course to determine this at 100% from the poor photos not possible, but I've already lost desire to find the truth. It may cost too much
4 out of 5 dentists recommend trident gum ! Your photo's are not that poor.....and over the past 15 years I've seen .....TENS OF THOUSANDS of pictures on the net .....maybe 100's of thousands....of native art from the sublime to the ridiculous , and have had to hone my eye to spot the good the bad and the ugly. It's 2015.....and while having the work in one's hand is ALWAYS the best way to judge authenticity......we've had to adapt.
