    Appears to be a hobbyist/home painted piece, the blank probably an European import..........but I have no other useless info to impart!

    That is a beautiful covered sugar. I dearly love it.

    (Oh how I wish I could stop here but . . . WARNING: unabashed driveling ahead)

    The butterflies are flitting among hollyhocks under the rays of the sun (the finial) and the handles are refracted rays of the sun. The sun's rays are reflected on the surface of a nearby pool of water (the golden base).

    And yes, Silverthwait, you and I are both seeing it as Monet-esqe.

    Delphiniums it is then. Thanks for the information. They are lovely flowers. ;)

    I looked them up and found that they don't grow "around here" because we don't have "cool summers" by any stretch of the imagination. :rolleyes:
