Bought this today from a Charity shop. 3 and a half inches tall. It’s supposed to be Baccarat glass but there nothing on the base except scratches. Top is stuck on with gunge/old perfume. I don’t know how to get the top off to clean inside it.
I’m scared to twist it or pull it in case I break the glass wand inside. Would the brass mechanism be harmed if I soaked it in warm water with dish soap? It’s working fine atm. Any suggestions please people @bercrystal Thanks

Pretty! I'd never heard of Marcel Franck. I can't help with your inquiry but thought I'd add THIS, for reference:

I'd suggest hitting it with WD40, or soap, and seeing what that does.

Hot water may work, but I'd be careful in case it cracks the glass.

I've had luck with penetration oil (Kroil) although it stinks a bit and should be used outside.

Looks like good old 3-in-one oil here in the USA. It does pong a bit. Singer Sewing machine oil works too if you have it handy.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Or can you soak it in warm soapy water without getting the atomizer all wet & soapy....you don't want to damage that part...........but you want the screw on part to soak..............

I think I will do as you suggest Aqui and soak it in warm soapy water but just covering the collar join of the brass and glass. I don’t know if it’s a pull off or screw off though. I would suspect screw off as it was a portable handbag/purse item and needed not to leak.
The perfume gave me a headache after 10minutes of sniffing it!

I don’t remember seeing this in U.K. but we probably have an equivalent. Thanks

The cap is the screw-on variety.

Here is what you are dealing with.

You would be better off using Isopropyl alcohol as that will cut through the perfume sludge which is the reason the cap will not unscrew. It will also cut all the sludge in your bottle.:happy:

I have it in a spray bottle. I would turn it upside down & try spraying it up into the cap. The bottle I would just fill it & swish it around. For really stubborn bottles I add some tiny BBs to the alcohol that act as an abrasive. :)

I forgot to add that the reason I prefer alcohol is it will dry faster. However, just to make sure I don't end up with water spots or condensation in a bottle I always dry the well & then let them sit without the cap or stopper for at least 24 hours.

The trick I use to dry them is I cut a strip of paper towel & then stuff it into the bottle using a wooden skewer. I use the skewer to get all around the sides & in the corners the best I can. Sometimes it takes a couple of strips but it works well.

Brilliant, thankyou. It’s called surgical spirit here in U.K. and I do have some around. I will let you know how it goes.

Hot water might cause it to crack if you suddenly plunge it into it. If you slowly build the temperature and let the glass all heat through and expand at the same rate it should be fine. Avoid excessive heat though. The heat may well soften the gunk too. Works with epoxy resin glue and marmite anyway.

Bingo. @bercrystal and @Marie Forjan Thank you:)
Took about 15 minutes using alternatively the surgical spirit and gentle removal of softened gunk at the join with a scalpel blade. Gentle twist try a few times and it turned. Bottle has been filled with SSpirit and I’ve cleaned the inside of the cap with a cotton bud.

    You are very welcome!!! :happy::happy::kiss:

Something tells me this one going to take a few more hits with the "surgical spirit". That is quite a build-up of perfume sludge. ;) :p:rolleyes: :D:D
