I had posted about how to get a good smudge free finish on my furniture.
I cant seem to pull it off. It always looks bad, and picks up finger prints like crazy.
Someone mentioned maybe the combination of what I tried with the old waxes that wwere on the finish.

Well... Do people strip off everything? Id love to start from scratch.

What about buffing out scratches and haze with different levels of buffing compounds?
Is that something that people do? I have a buffer, and plenty of compounds. I have some high quality car products. I really coundt find anything on youtube on stripping wax, or buffing old finishes.

Any wax or polish can be removed with mineral spirits. It should not touch lacquer or varnish underneath. It may dull the finish but a new coat of paste wax should restore the shine. I have not heard of buffing finishes with compound but suppose it would work. Would be concerned about compound residue getting into cracks, and woodgrain.
