I would appreciate any help in identifying this tool. My cousin has it over in Suwannee county in a small personal museum. He has no idea what it is, and I didn't catch where he got it. Everyone over there was a tobacco farmer, so I suspect it's some kind of farm implement. The tip is strange, not at all like an auger or reamer. I imagine it's for thrusting into something (not ice), and the t-handle must be for turning. But it escapes me. Not like a bung cleaner or anything I've seen. The handle is about 10-11" wide and the tool is about 14" long. Any ideas?

I was thinking something like that too, but I can't find any confirmation.

It reminds me of a plastic tool I have to pull hair out of a clogged sink drain only it is too big. However, you might investigate along the lines of something that catches and pulls it out. Either that or a specific type of reamer designed to pull debris out as it is pulled out.

    That's a great suggestion.

reminds me of something seen on 'To Catch A Smuggler" where inspectors are often ramming similar sampling probes/augers into products/goods to find illegal substances...

Maybe a rasp for squaring up the corners of a hole, for post and beam construction.

    No, it's definitely pointed.

It does look like that would apply.

That's a good suggestion, but it doesn't seem very rasp-like, especially being pointed. I would imagine that type of rasp being like a float.

No, I mean is the entire barbed area square? or just 2 sided like the picture shows

Oh, I see. No, it's sort of rhomboid shaped. Like a mostly flattened square. If that makes any sense. The closeup from "moreotherstuff" shows the tip better. Sorry I didn't take an edge-on view. It's definitely blade-shaped. I would've said for spear fishing if it wasn't for the t-shaped handle, which seems to imply needing to turn it.

Oh, OK. I got nothing then. I was thinking it was some kind of broaching tool, if it was square, for making a round hole in a piece of wood into a square hole to accept a peg.

    That would've been brilliant.

"t-shaped handle, which seems to imply needing to turn it."

Think it equally implies lifting. Whatever it went into, it didn't have to be hammered in, so ice is out.
