Hoping someone has more knowledge than I on this bowl... I have been totally unsuccessful at tracking down any info on this one.
Measures approx 17" across...has an extruded type border in and out.
Odd design, no makers marks that I can find.

Yep, wasn't quite sure what to call it, as it is more decorative than functional...it is 3.5 inches deep.

Yes, I'd call it a dish. I am no expert, but it looks Italian to me, so this could be one for @Walter Del Pellegrino .:)

That shredded clay decoration (can't think what it is called) is typical on 19th century Staffordshire figures so would not rule out an English origin.

Thank you so much for the comments...searching under Antique Italian pottery I have found a similar Capodimonte design they call a reticulated plate.
    The search is on!

That is not reticulated. Reticulated has open work.

Try Spinach as a search word.

Looks like an underplate to me.
Looks Italian at first, but Germany might be another possibilty.

It looks German to me though possibly Japanese. The shape is found in old German and Dutch pottery. Anyway, try mossware as a search term in addition to elfinware. Yours isn't green shredded ware but it might get you close.
