Strange brass Egyptian looking creature

Something else that has stumped me so has been laying round the house gathering dust. I was thinking maybe a hyena? I have seen similar items eBay referred to as african tribal art commanding silly amounts but none seem to have sold. He's about 12cm tall

My guess would be Sub-Saharan, maybe Ethiopia, like that.

 

With square muzzle and long tail maybe cougar/leopard?

There's also an animal called an African Wild Dog. Seems to have larger ears, though.

He’s Benin/Dahomey.

I’ve a small collection of these, including one very like. Brought back by family who lived on the Gold Coast.

 

Oh, and he’s a hyena.

 

I thought jackal until I googled it. Then again it is a bit abstract so hard to say

Pet Peeve: These people designing animal statues really have to quit adding their artistic discretion to them -

 

a hyena with that tail.....???

 

He’d fall over without that tail!

Could be a stylized lion. The decoration on the back of his neck could be a mane.

The lions are different. I’ll see if I can fish out photos of mine.
