Stumbled today on this work. Looks like a architectural drawing of a building complex and a park in the middle.

I didn't bought it in the beginning and walked away from it. Almost home and decided to go back and buy it becaude it had a beautiful frame which I could usea and it was professional sealed..

Looks like its all hand done and colored, probably watercolor or how do they call those pens which you can soak in water? You can also see that one roof of the buildings is raised with a other piece of paper. I can remember that i had similar drawings before with raised details. These were drawings which were used to produce prints for a book. Could this also been made to be printed. If yes than there must be prints of these out there. Is somebody fimilair with this.

It feels art deco to me because of the outer design but the building are to modern and looks more like the Nid 60s to me? Any opinions?

    Probably a UK artist.

    Look closer

    It's a face!

Like I said I almost didn't buy it because I didn't like it. Ones home I took it out of the frame. Started to look closer and found out that it's a painting of a man. It hanged upside down in the shop. I almost used it as a backboard for my other painting. Had to share this.

Could be fantasy, dont know. Need to research more. But most likely fantasy. It made me more curious because of the raised added paper. This they did with drawings which where prepared for printing. How do you call a painting like this?

I love it! Don't think they are existing buildings. It has a bit of an Escher feel, but later of course. You're right, could be 60s.

From a quick internet search, it does appear that board was used in the 1960s.

    OK, got it.
This is the cover art, or a portion of it, from an LP record from 1974. In the UK.
    Record: "Cameo Roles"
Band: "Rinky Dink and the Crystal Set."

    See https://www.discogs.com/Rinky-Dink-The-Crystal-Set-Cameo-Roles/master/587206
Includes a photo of the back of the record jacket, with art credits; but hard to make out the artist's name. Suspect it is Tony Wright, who was known for his album-cover art. If so, your piece might be worth something; his cover for Traffic's "Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" is in the Museum of Modern Art. It also might be that the cameo-face itself is by a different artist, used by Wright as part of the cover design.
Wright's website: http://www.tonywright-art.com/ includes a contact email, so it would be possible to ask him if this is his, or who did the cameo-face that he used in it.

I'll try to find a better image. Possibly your item is the original for the cover art; would be interesting to see if the LP cover includes the extra paper bit you noticed; I believe it does.

It is a fairly obscure record. Bill Ward, drummer for Rinky Dink and the Crystal Set, is better known as a founding member of Black Sabbath.

Keyboardist Graham Blyth is the founder of Soundcraft, a leading manufacturer of sound reinforcement and recording mixers. After being brought into the band, he and the other members built a mixer into a road case, the first time that had ever been done. Later known as the S1, that mixer was a foundation of the "British Sound."

It is possible Blyth could tell you something about the cover art; it should be fairly easy to contact him. He still works for Soundcraft Studer, now a subsidiary of Harman-Kardon, according to the Wikipedia article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Blyth

Not on the record, but featuring Graham Blyth on keyboards:
(In addition to his massive success in audio design, he continues to perform as an organist)

If the artist is known and the band has a cult following, that could jack the values up. If it were from a famous album the price tag would skyrocket, but I'm betting it's worth more than the OP paid by a fair chunk.

Amazing!! Thx so much all-fakes. It is indeed the same image as on the cover.. How in the world did you find this!!?? I'm really impressed! It's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Can you share with us how you researched it and how you found the work..
Do you have musical background and recognised the image? Or? Would like to learn from this!!

Did a bit more research and yes the cover art is partly by Tony Wright and the cameo face is indeed by John Chippendale. Tried now to research the artist Chippendale but no success. Was he a known artist?

Happy that I can give the work now a provenance and attribute it to the named artist. Maybe its also a good idea to put it back in its original frame and mat. Will also buy the record to keep it with the original painting..

    Thank you all-fakes! Impressive!!

It is a sideview of a man's head, he is facing right, the park in the centre is his ear.
