Seen this at auction. But I cant one anywhere else, it must be seriously rare, it has had considerable interest already.

Does anybody know anymore about these pencils?

Oho. If that's made by who I think it is, I covet it deeply. Remind me, Nathan are you in the UK?

Oh, never mind, of course you are. I think that's Doulton Lambeth. I want it.

I've never been more shocked by a first comment @komokwa :nurse:

Yep I'm in England, we literally see tons of Doulton lambeth all the time, often quite affordable. I live in stoke on trent, also known as the potteries. The antiques are as you'd expect, alot of pottery haha.

I wish it's lambeth too, the peak of their stoneware lines up vaguely with this but I didn't see the bottom. Im expecting it to be blank. It was £22 and I know even as a novelty propelling pencil that's not bad. I can't find another anywhere.

I'll post a picture here when I pick it up

If it's not Doulton, might be Bourne or Langley. Either way, I think you got a bargain.

I've heard the term here before - only from UK members, as I recall - but I've never seen one with a bottle attached. How does this work?

That's what I've always thought too, on looks alone for modern ones. But this one is weird. Is the bottle part just a hand hold and the graphite held in the metal part? How does the graphite advance? Do the bottle and metal come apart? Is there extra graphite inside the bottle?

Those brewery advertising ones seem considerablely later to me.

I havent picked it up for the auction house yet but I think maybe this one is static and doesn't have a mechanism to advance.

They're quite common here, not sure when modern propelling ballpoint pens were invented but at this point there are some pieces which are propelling pencils as well as dip pens.

Vaguely I've seen two period styles of them, the older ones, like pre 1900 are often Architectural (corinthian columns and such) and cam have Intaglios on a fitted stone but the later ones are much more art deco 30's and much simpler. They are often silver but are gold too with a heftier price tag.
