Found this at a thrift store today & liked it immediately - it was cool/almost cold to the touch - and I almost dropped it when I picked it up (t is incredibly heavy!).
It is signed E.M. on the bottom.

Is this soapstone? Any idea of its age/period it's from?

A image search turned up something kind of similar, especially the color, that they said was inuit? (Eskimo) - could this be same?

it has a chip out of it but I still bought it because- to me - it is a cool piece that for some reason reminds me of my era (1960s - 1970s).

So any info would be greatly appreciated!
Also - does anyone else like this piece?!
    Thank you!

JMHO, looks like student work. I see nothing to suggest MCM, it could have been carved yesterday. But, like I said, JMHO.

Given how strongly all the other lines of the initials are incised, I think it is CM, with the horizontal line in the middle of the C being one of the many scratches on the bottom.

You need to ask @komokwa about this one.

ya bang it....you get those white marks..

    not Inuit..that I can see....
the marks don't correspond to northern carvers........ possibly African..??

Looks like a guy waking up with a hangover wondering where's the rest of the Botero crew?
