Stone carved figure

This guy is 4.5" tall. The stone looks and feels like soapstone. No marks/ details etc. The bottom is carved flat and otherwise featureless.

Is this an apostle or some other kind of religious figure? Any comments are welcome.

Thanks- no, he's not holding anything-- that's his shoulder, such as it is.

 

Look at the bottom hand it looks to be holding something extending down. Reminds me of a sword scabbard. Could the cross piece of the sword be broken off?

 

That’s cool. Yes a chess piece comes to mind,but it’s not large for a chess piece? Anyway it’s a bit in between odd size.

 

Not for an ornamental set meant to sit out and look cool.

 

Thanks for the ideas. I'll get some better pics inc the bottom: it's not perfectly flat, and 'wobbles' a bit, which would be maddening if used to play chess.

 

Also don’t think it’s a chess piece.Looks to have some age to it .
