Featured STERLING SILVER TIFFANY & CO NOTEPAD

Been after a neat little silver notepad like this for years. Finally landed one a couple of weeks ago. Nearly missed out on buying it.

Any idea how old it is? I'm guessing it's fairly modern.

 

I saw that someone stated 1930's - are you sure that stamp is correct? It looks a little sloppy to me.

 

Well if it's from the 1930s, it'd be pretty worn by now I imagine. I see no reason why it would be a fake.

 

I have seen T & C on so many items that did not make sense. I wasn't talking about it being fading, it just looked a little sloppy. Just curious if you acid tested it?

Ditto. Much too sloppy for genuine Tiffany imo.
Unfortunately there are many Tiffany fakes.

Some of their marks were kinda sloppy, but I agree this doesn't look right. It's a legit sterling notepad cover, but I think someone added the Tiff signature.

I think that's fun. And it wouldn't surprise me if it's genuine. Don't think 1930s. More likely 1960s-ish. Important to remember that an obsession with trademarks didn't begin until the 1980s when companies started selling their brand rather than product and the subsequent advent of organized counterfeiting.

I gave the hinge-area a polish and a lot of whatever it is came right off, so I think it's either surface-grime or tarnish.

 

Personally, not really seeing a problem, that mark was common from the mid 20th century and later, and typical on gift type items produced by various manufacturers for Tiffany, like the tiny sterling perfume flasks which usually bear this mark and often also include the mark of maker Thomae Co.

I agree. If it looked like that on a modern item I’d be concerned but not for an item like this, around the time this was likely made.

 

Thanks for all the responses guys, it's given me a lot to think about.

I've done more research about this, and I haven't found any information suggesting that this isn't genuine. If this was made by another company, FOR Tiffany, as suggested by others, then I can definitely understand why that'd cause an inconsistency with the maker's marks etc, stamped on the back.
