I went to a local antique store today with my boyfriend who is really into military history. I found this ring and the dealer said he didn't know what it was, but it came in with a bunch of WWII stuff. I was wondering if anyone has seen one like it. It's probably just a cool, old ring, but I thought I would put some feelers out there and see if anyone has seen a similar one. There are no marks except for "sterling" on the inside band.

I tried to crop it down & enlarge it, but it's a little too blurry:

Looks like a seam down the middle of the "face"?

Sorry, I have not done this before. I swear I'm not trying to be a troll. Are these better quality?

Germany had many skull rings during the third Reich..the most valuable are the SS Ehren Ring presented by Himmler to SS men. They now cost many thousands of dollars but all are inscribed with the man's name , the date and Himmler.
Many others were for ordinary soldiers..but ..this one does not remind me of any of that era.
Thinking more of a biker's ring.

Thank you for the warm welcome and the info! It does look like a biker kind of style. I hadn't really thought of that as a possibility. You can hardly ever go wrong with random funky finds. :)

That was my first thought too. Biker/goth ring.

It's a "pirate's" ring, biker rings usually have knives, wrenches, pistols, etc. not the crossbones this ring has.

It appears to have been carved from a block of wax and cire perdue method of casting, completely handmade. Not very high quality, could even have been early student work done at a university jewelry making course.

Some members of secret societies, like Masons and Knights of Templar wore skull and bones rings too.

Anti, it could also be silver clay.

Silver clay is "999" silver,so it should not be marked 925/sterling.

I've a friend who is a qualified and accomplished silver clay jeweller. She has her stuff hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office. It is hallmarked as British sterling. They won't do it any higher.
