Tricia, there's a fair amount of info online about Deknatel, much of it incorrect. (Dates, locations, etc all seem to be all over the place!)

The best info I found about the company itself, and its founder, was via Google Books, here:
Notions and Fancy Goods, Volume 49, page 38
A December 1915 article called Forty-Seven Years of Progress about the company and its founder:
    https://books.google.com/books?id=pfZYAAAAYAAJ&pg=RA11-PA38&lpg=RA11-PA38&dq=j.a.+deknatel+&+son+"jewelry"&source=bl&ots=rdXIOFWciQ&sig=ACfU3U3l4E2r7mUZPRqqlCi6_umsr6RxsA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwinztzJntHhAhVpiOAKHXn2BI4Q6AEwDnoECAgQAQ#v=onepage&q=j.a. deknatel & son "jewelry"&f=false

Most of the various other references got some things right... Here are a few that show some differences:

    1904 to ca. 1952
J.A. Deknatel & Son, Queens Village, NY
    from: http://www.illusionjewels.com/costumejewelrymarksd.html

Made jewelry novelties, artificial pearl jewelry.
    Long Island, NY
    Late 1800's (1882?) through early 1950's

    from: http://www.morninggloryantiques.com/JewelChatPatents2.html

DEKNATEL - JEWELRY TRADEMARK USED BY J.A. DEKNATEL & SONS, INC. QUEENS VILL. NY FOR FAUX PEARLS SINCE 1948
    from: https://www.tace.com/VENDOR_PAGES/bjarrett/OJAD.html

It does appear that most of the company's various patents expired between 1952 and 1963.

Also, here's a bracelet that may have been from the same line as your brooch:
    https://www.etsy.com/listing/274984168/vintage-danish-deknatel-sterling-lilly?show_sold_out_detail=1
Note that the seller calls it "Danish" - which, of course, it is not.
