Won these at the local auction-house today :p

Sterling silver chopsticks with bamboo-stem & leaf decorations, and a sterling silver chopstick-rest. All with appropriate marks.

I made the little leather pouch myself...

...Made using one of my antique sewing machines, and a piece of scrap leather I had lying around.

The sticks didn't come with anything. It was the sticks and the rest and that was it.

And the sticks were jet black with tarnish when I bought them. Probably why nobody else bid on them! Took a long time polishing to get them back to what they are now. I think they're very elegant. I can't wait to use them :p

These are the chopsticks when I got them out of the auction-house. As you can see...eugh...!!

I think this is why I was the only bidder! Nobody else believed they were silver!!

I've always wanted a pair of silver or ivory chopsticks. One down, one to go! :D

The chopsticks did not come with any form of storage. I wanted to make something to put them in so that I'd know where they were, and so I knew they wouldn't get lost or damaged if I was carrying them around. I had loads of scrap leather around, so I measured up a piece, cut it out and did a rough job sewing it on one of my antique machines.

The fiddly bit was pulling the pouch the right way out. Of course, to get the result you see in the photos, the pouch has to be made inside-out. Once it's done, you gotta roll the thing rightside out. The smaller the item is, the harder it is to do!

Not sure how impressive the pouch is - I personally think it could've turned out rather better than it has. But it serves its purpose with a sort of rustic aesthetic to it.

And for those wondering - yes, the chopsticks are meant to be chained together. It appears to have been a common practice in older times when it came to individual pairs of chopsticks, to prevent one stick from being parted from the other, and thereby rendering them both useless.

Shangas, if you want to try your hand at making the top one, I have a bag of 19th century coral beads.

Komo, you have no idea how envious I am, that you have ivory chopsticks!

According to my father, my grandfather owned such a set, hand-engraved and presented to him with his name on them, as a long-service gift for his work (he was the secretary of the local clan-association). Unfortunately they are long-gone. If they were around today, those chopsticks would be an invaluable family heirloom.

Ever since my dad told me that story, I've wanted a pair of ivory chopsticks!
