I bought this at my fav thrift store. I am assuming it is sterling. It does have a mark which I believe is the Star of David. There is a mark above it but I cannot figure it out. I think it could be in Hebrew or just something I cannot read. Those are the best shots I can get because I tried a number of times. There is also a number 34 in the pointed end on both sides where the Star of David is. It measures about 3 inches long. Any thoughts? Ok, I have trouble listing a best answer because a number of comments add needed information. Is this necessary or something you all value a lot? I will do it when it doesn't feel like a lot of right information from a number of people, but when it is a number of people, is it important?

    I see a five-pointed star/pentagram, not a Star of David.

You all are great! So I am going to look at Spanish jewelers' hallmarks to see I can find the maker by that unclear mark above the star. Thank you so much.

I had no idea there was a difference between the lines in a Star of David and a star. Learned several things. I knew a mussel shell but tying it to paella, nice. Super. Thank you.

    I always love these purses.

The Spanish star mark is for .915, not for .925, so technically not sterling. If you want to sell it, it is best to call it silver or name the fineness and origin, to avoid problems with buyers expecting .925 silver.:)
A star can have any number of points. The Star of David is a hexagram, it has six points. This mark is a pentagram, it has five points.
Both the Star of David and this one are forms of the Seal of Solomon, important in both Judaism and Islam.
The Moors used both stars in Spain as important design elements, where they are still used a lot. So I think it is possible that the Spanish pentagram star mark is related to the Star of David by way of Islam.;)
