Stands about 5 1/4" high. Only marked sterling 1205X on base. It's missing some sort of top, and the bottom part of the glass, where it meets the base, looks to have been re-glued at some point, and the bottle (or whatever it is), is sitting crooked, and the glue is dark & yucky colored :wacky:. Don't know if it's even worth listing, but I'm going through the "Don't think it's worth listing, but let me double check first" pile.

I'm guessing possibly a perfume/cologne bottle missing the atomizer. try moving to glass and someone might recognize it

I'd scrap it. The base silver is thin and fatally dented. Chuck the rim and the base after the filler has been removed into the scrap sterling bag and move on.

Selling anything with serious flaws is always a hiding to nothing unless you do it face to face, and I doubt you'd clear more than the estimated silver value anyway.

Obviously missing a silver screen (or something else perforated) at the top but . . .
could it be a sugar caster?

Does the silver ring at the top pull off or unscrew (threaded?)?

It has a great deal of charm and appeal even in its "wonky" state.

Wack it with a hammer and pick the rim out of the pieces.

Thanks af, I really appreciate your help. It may just be my pictures, but the silver is not dented at all. Bad pics sorry!:( The silver also seems rather thick and heavy to me, but I am not sure if it is weighted. It doesn't feel completely solid when I tap the bottom, like, as if there were concrete in there or something. But I agree, with a missing lid, and a tilted bottom.....I just don't think anyone would want it.
    Thanks so much af.

Thanks your turn! Very kind of you.
Sorry, I should have posted a picture of the top. It doesn't screw off.
It reminds me of an ice cream sundae glass:cat:

The base looked a little crincled under the glass/silver joint.

The base will be loaded with some form of composition.

Hmmmm, you mentioned it reminded you of an ice cream glass. Could it be a small parfait or dessert glass?

Could the silver rim at the top be to protect the glass top/lip/rim from chips during a vigorous scraping out/spooning up of the last of delectable bit of a parfait/dessert? Just a thought.

People with silver do not do vigourous scraping. Anyway, you don't have things with narrow necks to eat out of whatever your neighbour does with a ketchup bottle.

AF, does the above revision "pass your mustard" (as DH jokingly says to me on occasion).

And I guess, AF, from you response ("People with silver do not do vigorous scraping") that you have never had children (especially young males) at a table set with anything silver.

Thank you all so much. I'm sorry the top opening is just under 1" in diameter, so I think too small to eat out of.
Whatever it is, I still can't find anything similar. Just don't know the proper keywords for searching.
I tried to edit the post and put in glass category, but couldn't find an option to change categories.
    Thanks again all!

If it holds water, declare it "bud vase" and sit it somewhere. The glass is pretty.

    Hi,
I would soak it in warm soapy water for a while. It just might have a peg bottom on the glass. Instead of reglueing it use Plaster of Paris to fill it so it sits straight and let it dry. It is a nice piece of glass. do not "ditch" it yet.

I agree with Greg. It is a good piece of glass.
With the weighted bottom, I do not think it was a vanity item such as a cologne bottle.
The weighted bottom, makes me think 1940s 50s. The pattern is familiar from one of the better glass houses. Hawkes? Guessing there.

I think it is a muffineer missing the top. The top would have fit over the silver rim and you can actually see the tarnish where the top did not cover the entire rim and the silver was exposed.

Thanks so much evelyb, Greg, & Pat. Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Greg, it's soaking now.:cat:
Pat, I will look into muffineer. I did give it a quick polishing, not a good one, but it was black before I started, so I probably just didn't do a very good job in that area. What you said makes perfect sense though, thank you!
I think the glass is really pretty too, but I just have no knowledge with glass items to tell if they are made well or not.
Just throwing this out there. The estate that I got this at had a collection of old oil lamps. There were about 4 shelves of them all together. This was on one of those shelves with all the lamps......it wouldn't be some kind of lamp missing parts....is it?, Don't laugh at me, just had to throw that info out there, LOL.
    Thanks all!

I like it and it could be re-purposed as a bud vase :) Unless you do a lot of scraping there really is not much there to scrap? Of course Af is the KING of scrapping in his shed :p:cat::joyful:
