    hi folks

got these nice pair of staffy small poodles, for very cheap (£5) because one has (had) a big chip

tried my hand at repairing it

    wondering how noticeable it is

ones actually got what looks like a makers mark as well, unusual

so wheres the repair then ?, super obvious, or notty ?

Haha! :hilarious: If I hadn't zoomed in there'd have been zero chance of me seeing that. Took me longer than I thought it would. Really well disguised.

Prices vary alot for figures 'identical' to these miniature poodles for some reason. Miniatures are often theorised to have been fairings, given away as prizes at fairs and markets. They're often highlighted with reds, yellows, blues rather than 'best gold' to save in materials too.

Irregardless, It'd be a struggle to find them for £5 haha. As for the makers mark, that does look a little baffling. I would be thinking its something stuck in the glaze but you never know, I've never had a figure with anything like that.

There are a few terrific groups on facebook for Staffordshire figures run by different leading experts, here is one that might like discussing the mark:

    Thanks Nathan !

Great info as well, didn't know that about the miniature ones

Yeah I thought a mark was odd for a Staffordshire piece as well

Appledore-What a beautiful little town, looks like something out of Jane Austen or Poldark. The 'doggies' look Jane Austen too.
    PS-bluumz,haunting great book.

The vast majority of Staffs figures are unmarked but there are a good deal of marked Staffordshire figures so some makers are known (Samuel Hall, Ralph Salt, John Dale and quite a few others) but all the marks I know of are stamped names very plain and traditional.

The mark looks embossed rather than debossed which would be very strange also. Its interesting to note though, never seen it happen.

Interesting English BBC mystery set in a coastal town (not,i think Appledore)-'Broadchurch' starring the excellent Dr Who alumni David Tennant.

Question - so Charlie are you going to mention the repaired damage ?

Charlie - mmmmm did you watch the match last night ?

Only joking of course, I'll disclose. think I would rather buy them like this, than with a big chip in one :)
