Staffordshire Fairing? Lady next to a stump

I'm thinking I may have an unmarked Staffordshire Fairing. If not, can someone please point me in the right direction besides North, East, South or West? Well made lady figurine wearing a hat while standing next to a stump. Weighs a tad over 12 ounces. Not lightweight like the MIJ figurines are. Stands just shy of 8" with a 3 5/8" x 3" base

 

She's rather shiny for a Staffs one. That glaze almost looks cellulose.

 

Thanks ownedbybear. It does have a glossy glaze vs matte. Fairing's usually have a matte glaze?

 

most if not all fairings I've seen are German and porcelain. I have no idea what yours is but it isn't like any Staffordshire pieces I've run across...

 

Not Staffordshire .. not well painted, the face is very poorly done. ... Joy.

 

Those airbrushed colors don't look Staffordshire-ish either.

Ours can be shiny, but not that deep gloss like that. I agree the colours are all wrong, too - gilding is very bright.

 

Would someone explain the term "fairing?"

Thanks, Blooey. But it still mentions fairings being given away at fairs, so it's not that far off.

 

This is the type of china I associate with "fairings" I believe most of them were made in Germany. Lots of different images usually with a quote to go with the image. One of the most prolific was "last to bed puts out the light" as 2 people are leaping into bed.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if it was American. The shape and glaze rather remind me of some of the pieces American Bisque and Leeds made. Not the bottom I would have expected but...
