I don't think it's Australian, but could be. Looks a bit like Isle of Wight but the flat disk stopper seems atypical, most having spherical stoppers. It is very well made with foil inclusions, well controlled surface swirls and a very flat, well polished base. 13.5cm high. Any idea as to the maker?

Second, the ground glass stopper is immoveable - tried tapping the neck with metal and glass, WD 40, sugar soap, soaking, heating the neck ... no luck. Could try chilling the whole thing and warming the neck but don't want to court disaster. Any ideas?

Thanks for any suggestions - my first post here , by the way.

Oh, I see! For a moment I thought you were asking if it was an olive oil bottle, silly me. Well, I don't think olive oil will do anything more than WD 40, being much more viscous. The problem is that ground glass stoppers are a very close fit. Thanks anyway.

    Could you heat the bottle?

Well, I tried running fairly hot water over the neck but achieved nothing. Unless someone comes up with a novel idea, I will try chilling the whole thing and then run warm water over the neck. I just don't want to crack it. Thanks.

You could try a non-flammable air cleaning spray like the kind you use to clean a computer keyboard. The spray comes out very cold. Just an idea.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Whoever the GOOD forum searchers are, someone ran into this before, and I DO believe it got solved HERE, but I have no recollection of who posted it!!!! I'd be VERY, VERY CAUTIOUS of the chilling and warm water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@MT Vessel - Try dripping some regular isopropyl alcohol around the stopper & letting it sit for about 30 minutes. If the alcohol is gone when you come back try twisting the stopper very gently but do not force it. If it still won't move just use some more alcohol. If they used it as a perfume bottle it may just be gummed up with old perfume sludge. Alcohol is about the only thing that dissolves it but depending on the build-up it could take some time.

Silicone spray works wonders for me. I have unstoppered several perfume bottles from the resale shop using it. It's handy for all kinds of things like zippers, drawers, windows. Just spritz a tiny amount and wait. It's available in hardware stores. I first found out about it at a RV supply place. Campers and RVs are notorious for freezing up due to winter disuse. One commonly available brand, but there are many.

Won’t the alcohol endanger any “flash” the piece may have? I’m still terrified I’m going to stick tape against the edges or use ANYTHING more than a warm, damp rag or sponge!

By the way, does anyone know how to definitively tell (let’s assume the piece is perfect and unscratched) if a piece is actually colored glass vs. “flash” glass??

Alcohol will do nothing to it except possibly loosen the stopper. It isn't painted.

Thanks for your concern but no, as blooey has said, alcohol cannot harm it. Perfumes are alcohol based and these iridescent finishes are extremely durable.

Flashed finishes are, I believe, more like a surface layer and slightly less shiny and transparent than glass which is coloured all the way through. Sometimes you can see scratches and wear which goes through the flashing.

Thanks, yes, actually I left it totally immersed in warm-hot water overnight. Of course it cooled down eventually but had no success.
