Spelter Lion

    Gilt Spelter Lion. Marked with what looks like ALTON on the base. Measures about 8 1/2 inches long. Probably a mantle display, part of a clock maybe. Lots of similar designs out there, but I haven't found a matching one yet. The curl of the tail is somewhat distinct, as is the marking. Its fairly solid/has some weight to it, even with the hollow base.

    That's funny...I was just in Alton (IL, USA) this month. So maybe referring to the location (USA or UK Alton) or foundry name? I like him a lot. He had a nice sculpt.
