I am so sorry for posting this in wrong thread, but can anyone give me some insight into this It appears to be in German and as far as I can determine it depicts a young girl been boiled in oil or water, (gruesome) and then been risen up to the heavens, I believe the men depicted as popes, Has signs of age, and minor damage there is a small split and foxing, also it seems as if the bottom part maybe was covered at some time due to uneven colour, poorly framed in a plastic frame, thank you in advance and again I apologize for posting in wrong threadm

    St John the Apostle.
I guess there is some dispute over whether he actually was.

Those are captions above the pictures so, yes, St John being boiled, and the apotheosis of Mary Magdalene.

Technically, I guess this should be in books or ephemera as it is a leaf from a book, but no one's going to complain. I think it's cool.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, I was going to say the Books or the Ephemera forum would have been good... but also that nobody would complain.

Just curious, what problems are you having with the Art forum? Technical, or other? For me, they all work the same.

Above Mary Magdalene is St Luke the evangelist, the patron saint of artists, with his symbol of a bull. I can't quite see the name of the King on that side (but it's definitely someone-der-Konig), nor can I make out the names of the Popes.

    I think there's a good chance it's original, maybe 16th C. Can't tell from the photos.

"According to the following page, the text was massed produced:"

That's mass produced in a 15th or 16th C kind of way. Note that the headings on this differ from the headings on the pages in the links, and then there's all those red initials. Looks like there was more than one edition.

It would be nice if this was an incunabulum (printed before 1501), and it may be, but I wouldn't know how to prove it.

thank you all for your opinions, and knowledge, so even if reproduced it is still pretty old, I will ask my daughter who lives in Houston if she can find a rare book dealer, that is about the only way I can think of to have age verified, or maybe a museum might be another option,
