I have this bowl and I just wanted to check if it might be from the song dynasty Era?

Looks like one of the 1940s American pottery company's cereal bowl.

Well the confusing thing is it resembles below and sorry for bad pictures my phone camera's lens got cracked and it causes details to be distorted.

Also, the item in the picture below also looks like something you could buy inside walmart.

Anyone know how to check for age besides a carbon test?

    SONG Dynasty........Tune....Chimes......It was a joke.......get it...a Joke !

Like thinking a glass bowl could be made of mutton fat jade....
or that this bowl could be 1000 years old !!

I have no idea where you're getting the idea that your items could be worth tens of thousands of dollars.....being some of the most precious items ever found....

You really need to take these to the Antiques Roadshow.....where you'll find out the Dy-Nasty truth !

Im not sure why youre upset, but my intentions were never to offend anyone.

Also, I posted this up here to ask questions and get some answers or leads and if my question was somewhat offending because it was dumb well instead of just posting that my assumptions were absurd why not post up examples and try to point me in the right direction. Took you three comments to tell me that it's not a song dynasty bowl. Geezzzz

Hi, I think the first thing when asking for opinions on any pottery item it's important to include photos including the base and information about any markings on it.

The base of an item often provides more insight into what something is than any other part of it.

What I'm wondering is if you're being swayed by the color. Green celadon is a greenish shade you'll often see on Asian ceramics however similar colors are also popular on other ceramics. Modern Asian ceramics can look very old and in many cases have been faked to resemble antiquities.

When I look at the photo of your bowl it for all the world looks to me like modern mass produced dinnerware. I'd prefer to be wrong.

A very good site for learning about Chinese and Japanese ceramics is gotheborg.com. The main site has lots of information and they have a discussion board that is pretty awesome. Unfortunately their discussion board has a yearly subscription fee.

What SIS said is excellent advice.

I have been wondering the same thing about being confused with the celadon.

I hope that you are not going to thrift shops and spending a great deal of money on what you have shown, as none of it is what you seem to think it is. Very, very seldom do those one in a million antiquities actually show up in a thrift store. Not to say it never happens. Just not with the regularity that you seem to be finding.

Oh, I'm not upset....at least not with you.

It's just the way in which you posted the question.....& then the follow up, & add to that the same kind of query about the white bowl.

Had you come here with several pics of each , asking " Hey Guys & Gals , can you tell me what kind of bowls I have ?? " .... I would not have even posted on these threads , but instead let the members who know, explain what you have !

Are we goning to see a picture of the bottom or not?
By the way, how did you come with Song? The crop image that you have posted shows a Yongzheng celadon bowl.

Sorry, here it is and excuse the poor quality pictures. This is what I get for posting multiple postings without turning on the alert. Thank you.
