I've gotten some interesting milk glass last week and this pitcher is one of them. It is white glass with this brown scene painted on it, accented in gold. The handle used to be all gold, but it is mostly worn off. I can't place the scene - American or European?? There is a little boat with reeds/cattails in the water. A man appears to be walking down a ramp to the water. It measures 7 1/4" high and 5 1/4" wide. The only mark is the 3. on the bottom and the artist's signature, Ahne. toward the base. Any ideas on maker or age? THNX!

It looks European to me, but I am by no means an expert. It is really beautiful though! Great find!!!

The numeral 3. on the bottom is definitely from east of the Atlantic. The pictures is from there, too. Love the decoration inside the spout.

I think that 1st dibs description sounds good - 3rd quarter 19th C. Those sprigs of grass at the neck have an aesthetic/Japonism vibe. The landscape scenes are probably copied from contemporary prints, quite possibly from one of the Picturesque Whatever series.

It takes a fair amount of usage to so completely wear the gilding off a handle like that.

Thanks to every of you for your info and comments! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who appreciates this piece. When I gurgled Ahne, all I received hits on was ancestry web sites. But one said it was a deutsche surname, so there is that.

huntingtreasure, I will be bookmarking that page, thanks! I also think the decoration inside the spout is inspired.

Now if I can just figure out how to get $300 for it, like that 1st dibs vase.
