Snuff bottle

I picked this up today for a couple of quid. Google says it is a snuff bottle which rings true. However, there's a great difference in opinions on where it is from. Some say bohemian, some Thai, tibettan. The writing on it is possibly Arabic to me, although not certain. Certainly not European, so I would rule bohemian out. The chain looks quite new, so either a recent addition or maybe the whole thing is quite modern.

The style is Newari, from the Kathmandu Valley, but lower quality. The inlay is glass, meant to imitate their most used stones coral and turquoise.

They probably mean Bohemian as in lifestyle, Boho. These are worn by the Boho crowd, just like they were once worn by the Hippies.

Some sites call them coin bottles. Are they made from concave coins, back to back?

I had one a while back and thought it was a khôl bottle !

Himalayan is better.

 

Some of them don't have those flattened spatula tips but simply round rods like applicators. Those could be used as khôl bottles.

 

Don't expect too much of this bottle. In this case Ali Express is on the pricey side. There are many out there, and overhere they usually sell for 5-10 euros.

 

Well it only cost me £2 so no major damage done.
