Hello everyone, bought this a while ago on eBay in a lot for around £20. There are a few silver smelling salts bottle cases around and they come up often but I’ve never seen any of another material like this one. Wondering if anybody has seen any others not in silver.
    Dyou think this is brass?

Also has a reg design number on, which is readable in the photos as 371437 I think, but I’d advise looking at it yourself too.

The top is something I’ve seen more uncommonly too. Other than the classic smelling salts globular stopper and the crown this is the next most common I’ve seen. Is this a certain maker or just a normal deviation for aesthetic purpose in cheaper versions.

Hello see you signed up last July. You need to pop in more often. You will learn a lot very quickly.

Metal is most likely silver plated on a base metal, which could be brass, white metal, copper or another alloy of some sort.

I'm guessing your item is English.
Shape and color are not something we normally see here in the states.
The registry number is something we don't have. Probably akin to our patent numbers. There may be a site where you can look the number up.

Just looked up the number - falls in 1901.

Yup, 1901, well done. It's brass now, may have been plated once. You can look up who registered the thing, but it's awfully clunky.

I’m sure I’ll be sticking around guys. In England there are registered design numbers on many items. They were brought in with a relevant act of Parliament in 1839.

Oh yeh I signed up a while ago, no idea why I left I’m a 20 year old antique collector from stoke on Trent England. I’ll be posting interesting items I have which need certain aspects clearing up, so enjoy
