Small two piece bakelite item - purpose?

    I'm convinced this thing has a utilitarian purpose. I'm not sure which way the yellow piece is supposed to sit - the screw was loose when I got it. The shallow holes are about 1/16" deep. The slots in the yellow piece go up to a peak in the middle, and there is a narrow channel that runs up the center of each slot on both sides.
    Any ideas?

    Knife rest?
    Any evidence anything was glued in those 2 depressions? They may be there to use for screwing it down on a counter if desired.

    Oh, thank you King! I'll have to try some knives with this.
    What do people think, two per slot, criss-crossed, with the points in the holes?
